Brand strategy and positioning, before anything is designed.

Most identity work struggles because the thinking behind it never got resolved. The business has changed, but no one has stopped to define what it now stands for, who it is for, or how to talk about it.

From our studio near Bath, we work with founders and leadership teams to make those decisions properly, so the work that follows has something to hang off.

Brand strategy and identity work in progress.

Who this is for

For founders and teams who need to settle the thinking before they commit to design.

You might be repositioning, naming a new venture, or trying to bring a fragmented narrative back together. Different people are describing the business in different ways, and a rethink is underway that nobody has properly led. The pressure to get on with the visible work is real, but the underlying decisions are not yet stable.

We work best with leadership teams who want a senior partner to think alongside them, not a strategy deck that sits in a drawer.

What we do

We help businesses settle the thinking, then express it with clarity.

Strategy is not a document we produce and walk away from. We work alongside founders and leadership teams to define positioning, narrative, and naming, and we stay close as those decisions move into identity, website, and product.

Positioning

Defining what the business stands for, who it is for, and what makes it distinct.

Narrative and messaging

A clear story the team can use, not a tagline waiting to be forgotten.

Naming

Names for new ventures, products, and sub-brands that will hold up over time.

Audience and proposition

Sharper thinking about who the work is for, and what they actually need.

Brand architecture

Clarifying how parent brands, products, and sub-brands relate.

Workshops and alignment

Working sessions that move leadership teams from disagreement to a shared direction.

How we work

A process that starts with questions, not deliverables.

  1. 01

    Discovery

We spend time with the business, the leadership team, and the work the company is already doing.

  2. 02

    Definition

We define the positioning, the audience, and the core idea the brand needs to hold.

  3. 03

    Articulation

We shape the narrative, naming, and language so the thinking is usable, not abstract.

  4. 04

    Handover

We carry the strategy into identity, website, and product, so it shapes every decision after.

Common questions

Brand strategy: common questions

What does a brand strategy project actually produce?
A clear position, core messaging, naming where needed, and a narrative the whole business can use. It is the thinking that makes every design and marketing decision afterwards faster and more consistent.
How long does brand strategy take?
Most strategy engagements run four to eight weeks, depending on how many stakeholders are involved and how much research is needed. We will give you a clear timeline as part of the proposal.
Do we need strategy before identity or web design?
Usually, yes. Identity and websites built without a position underneath tend to get revisited within a couple of years. Strategy first means the creative work has something to aim at.
Can you work with a strategy we already have?
Yes. If you have existing positioning or brand work, we pressure-test it rather than starting again, and build the identity or digital work on top of it.
Where are you based?
Our studio is at Glove Factory Studios, a short drive from Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, and Bristol. You can read more about our design agency services near Bath.

If the underlying thinking has not been settled, no amount of design will fix it. We should talk.
